Let me participate in that topic please, though i am not sure is that allowed or not and all of your works make me really feel depressed to write my poor English cause all are so fabulous .Therefore ,if there is something wrong , warmly welcome to correct no matter what i write , one i want to mention here is my terrible speaking ,as Ko Myo Thein described to understand what the speaker said is also one of the important things in speaking English . Likewise, if the listeners cannot get what we are talking about is an issue as well , that is my problem cause of my accent that always make to the 2nd party confusing understanding.
As a conclusion , can i have some suggestions from u all friends which can improve my speaking English then all my skills . I am sure you all guys are so great in knowledge and experiences..
towards better understanding !!!!
Reading what Myo Thein and Angel discussed from their own corner of views.. what I'd like to forward is understanding various accents of numerous nationalities in abroad. To my experience Australians and New Zelands speak worst to let me catch up with.My solution was talking with those people every now and then.I kept asking them whenever I didn't realize what they mean.I tried to recognize the way they pronounce words. After working with one Australian guy for nearly 7 months my difficulties of understanding their accent got solved...So just stick with them if you need to get better understanding as well as don't be shy to say to repeat until you truly get the point.Remember to pretend to understand is far worse than asking for repeat....
Anyway I fully agree with you that understanding is the root of the language tree on which other branches skills are growing forth....
i used to follow speaking before i follow translation....Speaking with correct grammar, esp in tenses, show the level of your study. Fluency skill is not that difficult compare to accuracy. However, when someone focus too much on accuracy, you know what gonna happen, for a beginner, it would take abt 3 minutes to spit out a sentence or nothing will be out.
For the accent problem....we burmese hasn't got much problem to deal with it, i mean in speaking. Cause burmese accent mean no accent. We just need to choose which accent we like to speak. UK or US. For me US accent is much better than UK. Believe me if an english speak in english you will not fully understand. you will even think they are speaking in different language. Even in UK there are lots of different local accent.
you know what irritating me is...pronouncing every single word properly. you will never say,
thi(sa) is(sa) a book(ha). Well....some chinese and japanese usually pronounce every single word like this. And they think it is the proper way to speak. Some of my friends speak like that....
man...that's do me head in. So don't worry too much abt your accent...just don't pronounce single word when you speak...it will be good enough to start with.
thx a lot for ur deeply advice as ko btt mentioned ,i can get my confidence back right away..now what i am trying to follow the proper accent is watching more movies to get theirs..but sometimes still in trouble cause of my native accent however i hope that gonna be fine ...
anyway, anyhow
i m terribly sorry to make you all busy!!
well ,
toward better understanding is a good example of ko kaung htet and the importance of grammar which ko myo thein 's post as well , all skills are essences of speaking english with their effective ways , if one of them is not balance each other , that will be out of order wherever we talk about as ko kaung's experience the different accents can make us difficulties but if we are patient to catch up with them that will be fine also and i am totally support what ko myo thein said about "the grammar " too. Thanks you very much for you all advices and the one i have still in getting trouble is my accent that can be barely understood to the listeners...but i will try up to my last breath ..:P
I am also greatful to you,Miss Angel for getting involved into our discussion.Anyway it doesn't cost us anything to share what obstacles we've faced in the journey of English study. Moreover we all are of obligation to hand over what our seniors did to us.I am very glad to see you with lots of motivation on this route. All the best...
all are my pleasure to deal with your discussions that offer me a lot of knowledge concerned with everything so i will resume what i am finding on my way and i am really fond of to know you all guys too ,as you know ko kaung my workshop is in Sharjah, that is very rare to see the native speakers most are just locals gives us always headache but they possess as well fluency of language ,though i cannot take thus much advantages from them to improve my speaking,,here that is only the weakness point for me !! but looking forward to get further more chances !! thx for all!
